Chinese Cuisines – A Short Write-up On The Amazing Cuisine
China is a big country and its cuisines reflect both the variety and size with different regions of the country adopting different approaches to cooking.. These regional cuisines include Cantonese (“Yue”) and Szechuan (“Chuan”), that are both well known in the West, as well as Anhui (“Hui”), Fujian (“Min”), Hunan (“Xiang”), Jiangsu (“Su” or “Yang”), Shandong (“Lu”), and Zhejiang (“Zhe”). Moreover, many from China have emigrated to other countries around the globe, and created new dishes based on the fusion of traditional Chinese dishes with other countries’ flavors.
There is a huge variety of popular Chinese dishes, so it would be futile to try and catalogue all here. However, we can jot down some of the more popular Chinese dishes:
* Congee – A type of porridge. Congee is generally made using rice, but other cereals such as barley, cornmeal, millet or sorghum are sometimes used instead.
* Dumplings – Chinese dumplings may be fried (“guotie”), steamed (“jiaozi”) or boiled (“shuijiao”), and generally contain ground meat or vegetables.
* General Tso’s Chicken – This is an American-Chinese dish which is famous in North America, but rarely eaten in China itself. The chicken is deep-fried, and served in a sweet and spicy sauced.
This is a well-liked chicken based dish made using shaxing wine, cashew nuts and sichuan peppercons. This dish is improvised in the west to incorporate their favorite flavoring ingredients
Peking Duck: Its basically roasted duck that is doused in syrup and then served with plum sauce, pancakes and scallions.
This is a simple boilded egg that is laced with herbs spices and soy sauce
Xiaolongbao – This is an extended variety of sandwich and is basically steamed bun containing seafood, vegetables and meat soup. The meat soup is not prepared before hand, infact meat gelatin is sandwiched inside an opening within the bun and allowed to cook and form into soup.
* Zongzi – Gelatinous rice and a filling, wrapped as a parcel inside bamboo leaves.
